The dreaded "I need to lose weight" or "How to lose weight" - part 2

Welcome back 😀 In part 1 of this series, I gave you some quick tips on how to get started on the weight loss journey. Is it enough? Well, yes, but it is worth discussing more about the topic to increase your chances of success.  There are some things that we need to address. I know, it’s never easy. You’ve probably heard that abs are made in the kitchen . Well … that’s true. When it comes to weightlifting and seeing good results, I’d say that 60% is nutrition , 20% is training and 20% is quality sleep . Yeah, unexpected, I know. However, when it comes to weight loss, brace yourself.  Nutrition is waaay more important! I’d stick my neck out that it’s more like 80%. Training and quality sleep fill in the remaining 20%.  One of the key take-aways from the first post should be that our bodies are extraordinary machines. Well, to continue the car analogy, premium fuel is better for your car - more HP, “cleaner” engine cycles because of the higher octane, etc.  The food...

The dreaded "I need to lose weight" or "How to lose weight" - part 1

How many times have you decided that enough is enough and starting tomorrow, or next Monday, or on whatever particular date your mind was ok with, you will start exercising and losing weight. How many times did you succeed and how many times did you fail? 😃 Here's the thing, what I said here about unrealistic expectations is also true for losing weight. Now, sure, building muscle and losing weight aren't exactly the same thing. However, both require a plan and most importantly the right reasons and mindset to start. If you want to lose weight because you want a six-pack, cause you heard your crush, who doesn't even know you exist, is into this thing ... well, maybe it would be best to reconsider (or find a BETTER reason to start) 😜 Cause chances are, your crush already has their eyes on someone else and, when you'll find out, you'll be very dissapointed. Oh, and heart-broken, and you'll cry, and you'll abandon the awesome weight loss journey that you'...

Sh*t I went through - part 1

Well, as the title says, this series of posts is going to be something quite different from what I usually post (fitness and finance). I don’t know how many of these I’m going to write ... I have quite the “library” to pick from. Like some of you, I’ve been through a lot. “Who the hell asked you about this? Nobody cares !!! You think you had it bad?! #Triggered”  I’m sure that there are people out there who went through tougher sh*t, just as well as I am sure that some of you complain about stuff that’s a 1 on the pain scale (emotionally).  So why am I writing this? Think of it as this - you’re going through something rough in your life and you went to a bar, listening to what a stranger has to say.  Hopefully, you’ll get some value out of it. It is my hope that by writing these posts, someone will find some strength, or something else, let’s call it inspiration, to keep them going when they’re in a bad place.  If there’s at least one of you that got something out of...

"Why should I start working out?" (part 2)

As promised, in this post I’ll go over my reasons for starting to work out, some reasons that, on average, are not going to “keep you in the fight” for the long game, and some bonus bits and pieces about what keeps me going. Click here for part 1, just in case you missed it. I started to work out when I was about 25 years old. Had some attempts when I was a teenager but that didn’t last long. Why? Well, because of unrealistic expectations and goals. Back in my teens I was a bit overweight, had trouble fitting in, the usual teenager problems. So, I thought that looking a certain way would definitely increase my coolness level and help me with pretty much all of my problems. The main reason, back then, was to look good and to boost my ego (which was kind of messed up, tbh, but I’ll get into that in another post, not fitness related). I stepped into the gym, found a lot of jacked dudes and I was thinking to myself … hell yeah, after one year I’ll be a beast. Yeah, that didn’t go ...

"Why should I start working out?" (part 1)

That’s a very good question. One of the main reasons why so many people fail when it comes to hitting the gym / working out, is that they, most likely, are not crystal clear on the multiple benefits that working out has, and didn't really consider what it takes. Now, I’m not a doctor, but I bet you heard that exercise is good for you and that you should not neglect working out / doing some sort of physical exercises, at least a couple of times a week; the health benefits are considerable and, this alone, should probably be enough to motivate you to start right away and, most importantly, be consistent about it. I mean, after all, it is your health we’re talking about, right? But, hell, as an iconic character once said,  It’s not enough, otherwise you probably wouldn’t be reading this post. I won’t speak in general terms so I’ll stick to the sport I’ve been doing for the past 9-ish years - bodybuilding a.k.a working out a.k.a iron-pumping a.k.a embracing your inner gym rat … there’s...
